Hello my name is Tom, but you probably already knew that. I love to develop things, in particular software. From the age of roughly 13, I have shown an interest in developing software.
Since then I have designed and developed many projects, which you can see for yourself on my projects webpage; which serves as an e-portfolio.
If you any questions, feedback or simply want to contact me please use the contact webpage to do so.
I graduated from school in August 2010 with 9 GCSEs; 6 grade A* - C and 3 grade D - F. My motivation for obtaining these grades was college. In particular a BTEC IT course that was brought to my attention by Herefordshire College of Technology.
The course was made up of 18 individual units; Computer Systems Architecture, Database Design and Website Production to name a few. Each unit was graded with either a Pass, Merit or Distinction which made up the overall grade for the course. I made all the units apart from one to Distinction standard and graduated with the highest grade possible, a Triple Distinction*.
I am now at the university of Bath studying for a Bsc(Hons) in Computer Science.
Mobile Applications (My Background):
Back in July 2012 I become curious about modern mobile platforms. iOS and Android caught my eye and started to research into development for both platforms. I came across an amazing company called Xamarin who develop Xamarin Studio (formerly Mono for Android / iOS).
The concept is simple; Xamarin Studio allows you to develop Android or iOS applications using C#. Not only that, but it also allows you to share a similar code base for a single application over both platforms.
By this point I was sold on the idea so I contacted Xamarin about their student packages. Since then I have developed numerous mobile applications including Mc Skins.
Mc Skins is an application related to the popular video game Minecraft. You can read more about the project here.
After just one week, Mc Skins had been installed on roughly 1,500 devices. Being my first project, I was very impressed with the attention it received. Since then Mc Skins has grown a lot, having now been installed on more than 500,000 devices; which is simply awesome.
I considered the situation a success and ever since I have been developing more and more mobile applications. I hope to continue developing for mobile platforms for as long as I can, after all who knows what the future holds...
